CBD Oil for pets is being used to treat a number of aliments and is on the increase. CBD products for humans are taking the world by storm and as our pets have a number of ailments that are similar to us it was only natural that with time products suitable for them would be included in the range of CBD products on offer. Added to this is a shift towards holistic health for ourselves and our pets.
As with any new medicinal product, be it for use on ourselves or our pets, we need to be aware of what is on offer, and educate ourselves on the product. What are the pros, the cons, and what is all the hype about?
What Is CBD Oil?
If you have not heard of this product you may be wondering just what it actually is. Most people have heard of using cannabis to treat a number of ailments, and CBD oil is derived from the cannabis plant. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the component that has the mind altering effects in marijuana plants. CBD oil is the liquid derived from the marijuana plant. The flower of the plant contains trichomes, these are the glands that have essential oils, these glands can be separated from the plant and then formulated to find the ideal ration of cannabinioids.
We do not want our pets to be consuming THC, so for this reason I have worked hard to find a company to safely promote that extracts all the (THC) components from their product. They also have a clean and green policy, More on this company and their incredible pet CBD products later.
Just to be clear, giving your pets CBD products made from hemp, is not the same as giving your pets marijuana or them accidentally eating a marijuana plant, which is incredibly dangerous for them, you don’t want to get your pet stoned, that is the bottom line.
CBD Oil For Pets – What is This?
CBD Oil is growing in popularity to use as an alternative medication to help treat the symptoms of cancer, stress and seizures in dogs. Pet owners are reporting incredible results using these products on their pets.
For cats CBD oil is used to help with stress and anxiety and may be used to help relieve arthritic symptoms.
Dangers of Giving CBD Oil To Pets
CBD Oil is still largely unregulated, and therefore, it is definitely a buyer beware situation. I personally do not recommend you administer any CBD Oil products to your pets without consulting your vet.
It is now reported that an increasing amount of people are consulting their veterinarians on the use of CBD products.
The main issue with these products is the dosage, there has not been enough studies and scientific research to set the correct dosage for our animals.
That said, there does not appear to be any adverse side effects to giving your dogs too much CBD Oil.
The incredibly important ingredient that you need to be aware of is the THC level in the product. Marijuana is highly toxic for both dogs and cats, often resulting in urgent treatment if they have eaten a marijuana plant. If, you, feed your pet CBD Oil and they appear to be having a negative effect, such as not eating, diarrhea, generally behaving as if they are high, or lethargic, get them to a veterinarian immediately. This is an increasing market with very little control, beware of dodgy products, do your research first and always consult a veterinarian.
Unlike a number of manufactured products CBD Oil does not appear to
have any long-lasting side effects when used correctly to treat
animals. If, you, stop giving them the product the effectiveness of it,
or any side effects will cease. Cats may experience some stomach upset,
but this can be controlled by changing the dose and/or stopping the
You also need to be aware if CBD Oil is legal in your state, or country. The important element is if it is derived from marijuana or hemp and if it contains THC.
Products that are derived from hemp and do not contain THC are not so strongly controlled.
Finding a Legal and Ethical CBD Product
I love my pets as if they are members of my family and for this reason I have worked hard to find a CBD product that does not contain THC to use for pets.
I have joined with Joy Organics to promote their range of CBD products for pets for the following reasons:
Their products are different from other products due to the fact that they are organically and domestically grown. Their process includes advanced nano technology, and they ensure an industry-leading absorption rate and bio-availability. Joy
Organics partner is the only company in the world with a patent pending chromatography process that removes THC, waxes and chlorophyll while leaving all the cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids intact. The result? Purity and potency that sets them apart from the competition.
They launched their online store in July 2018. Currently Joy Organics do not ship internationally, due to regulations surrounding CBD products. Joy Organics products are legal in all states in the USA.
Their products do not have THC in them! Joy Organics tincture oils and gummies are vegan, but their soft gel capsules and balms are not.
The Advantages of Treating Your Pets With CBD Products
While there are no scientific studies to support the claims of the results people are reporting using CBD products when treating their pets, more and more people are commenting on the positive results they are experiencing.
These range from arthritic pain relief, to calming stressful animals down, and to helping with pain relief from cancer and seizures.
A number of veterinarians are now starting to support the use of CBD oils for pets as an alternative holistic treatment.
This is a list of the benefits customers are reporting back after treating their animals with CBD products.
1. A reduction in pain for mature animals, or animals suffering from hip issues and arthritis.
2. An anti-convulsant for dogs suffering from seizures.
3. Increase of appetite and reduction of nausea, these are common symptoms of animals suffering with cancer.
4. Reduces anxiety in dogs who may be highly strung, have a change of environment, rescue dogs, or may react to fireworks.
How Is CBD Products Administered To Your Pets?
Cannabis oil is generally administered orally to our pets. There are some topical treatments, however, Joys Organics have dog treats and oil to be given orally. Again the dosage to give your animal should be discussed with your veterinarian, success has everything to do with using the correct dosage. CBD oil can be used in conjunction with traditional medications and treatments, it still falls under the holistic category.
